Four years ago, the top five Detroit employers included the Big Three Automakers. Last winter the top five were the Detroit Public School system; the City of Detroit; the Detroit Medical Center; the Henry Ford Health System .. and the US government. How the mighty have fallen. 55% of the jobs in the City of Detroit are public service. It's not a big city any more (713,000).
The official unemployment rate is 14.1% but may be more than twice that.
