California   "Under AB 889, household “employers” who hire a babysitter on a Friday night will be legally obligated to pay at least minimum wage to any sitter over the age of 18 (unless it is a family member), provide a substitute caregiver every two hours to cover rest and meal breaks, in addition to workers’ compensation coverage, overtime pay, and a meticulously calculated timecard/pay check".

Central Falls, Rhode Island filed for bankruptcy August 1st.  Receiver Flanders has ordered reductions of up to 50% in Central Falls reitrees' pensions and suggested he will need to slash the police and fire budgets by 40%. "We're well along on a five year plan of recovery".  (h/t Global Economic Analysis)

Comment: The babysitter story is doing the rounds and makes AB 889 look more ridiculous than it is.   Gardeners,  live-in Nannies are also being regulated.
