Government is uniquely positioned to steal our freedoms

Government is simply not something to be trusted. Rather, it is a permanent object of suspicion, because it is uniquely positioned to steal our freedoms. (Sheldon Richman)
He goes on to quote Thomas Jefferson:
"It would be a dangerous delusion were a confidence in [politicians] to silence our fears for the safety of our rights: that confidence is everywhere the parent of despotism — free government is founded in jealousy, and not in confidence; it is jealousy and not confidence which prescribes limited constitutions, to bind down those whom we are obliged to trust with power".  (Eighth resolution at the link).

Ladies and Gentlemen in high office, it's nothing personal.
It's our duty to doubt you.
