Rich enough to vote

Michael Barone writes thoughtfully about what kind of wealth gives you voting clout.
It used to be owning farmland.  (Now 2% of the population, farmers are still subsidized)
Then owning houses.  ( 98% of the population live off the farm.  Housing is subsidized with deductions and the two "Fannies".)
Something nimbler is coming along.  (To be subsidized by its stakeholders)
