Soap: "A serial drama chiefly characterized by tangled melodramatic situations"  Originally broadcast to sell soap, each episode ends with a promise for more drama the following day.  A "Tag" is the ending of a scene in which an actor delivers a staggering line or leaves us with a telltale expressive face.  In the industry, a soap actor is proud when he or she is awarded with a tag.  Source
