The World Bank Group charts 183 countries for ease of doing business.
Canada comes in #3 this year, behind New Zealand and Australia for startups. This looks pretty good, presented in isolation, especially since the US is ten places further down, but the chart detail is not so awesome. Overall, Canada sits at #13.
Getting permits is awkward (#25). My limited experience bears this out. Thirty five years ago, in one day I was able to get a permit to build a house in the Okanagan but now it runs three to six weeks at twenty times the cost.
We're on shaky third world ground (#64) for enforcing broken business promises.
That troubles me.
The #156 position for getting electricity appears to be a data goof.
