Climategate 2: The Global Warming Hockey Stick is stone cold dead. UPDATED

"HOKEY" STICK IS DEAD

Breaking news: 170 more megs of  5000 hacked emails released. "They're real and they're spectacular".(Watts Up With That). Another couple hundred thousand are in the file but still password protected. With deliberate collusion, good science was suppressed to support a partisan agenda for global warming.

On a second reading of the stolen  UEA emails leaked today, and just reading the README file emails, these sound worse than I thought at first – their impact will be devastating. David Appel

Excerpts at Powerline:
Wigley:
Mike, The Figure you sent is very deceptive [...] there have been a number of dishonest presentations of model results by individual authors and by IPCC [...]
Wils:
[2007] What if climate change appears to be just mainly a multidecadal natural fluctuation? They’ll kill us probably [...]

More excerpts quoted at PJMedia's Tatler:
"Any method that incorporates all forms of uncertainty and error will
undoubtedly result in reconstructions with wider error bars than we currently
have. These may be more honest, but may not be too helpful for model
comparison attribution studies. We need to be careful with the wording I think".
Jones:

"How can we be critical of Crowley for throwing out 40-years in the
middle of his calibration, when we’re throwing out all post-1960 data ‘cos the
MXD has a non-temperature signal in it, and also all pre-1881 or pre-1871 data
‘cos the temperature data may have a non-temperature signal in it!"
Esper:

"I’m sure you agree–the Mann/Jones GRL paper was truly pathetic and should
never have been published. I don’t want to be associated with that 2000 year
“reconstruction”.
Osborn:

"I am afraid that Mike (Mann) is defending something that increasingly can not be
defended. He is investing too much personal stuff in this and not letting the
science move ahead."
Cook:
One excerpt from the Appel site linked above: <1939> Thorne/MetO:
Observations do not show rising temperatures throughout the tropical
troposphere unless you accept one single study and approach and discount a
wealth of others. This is just downright dangerous. We need to communicate the
uncertainty and be honest. Phil, hopefully we can find time to discuss these
further if necessary [...]   "Phil" is Dr. Phil Jones of UEA (University of East Anglia)

The article at the Guardian points out that the hackers had political motives for releasing this just ahead of the climate summit that opens Monday in Durban.  The somewhat notorious Professor Mann recognizes his emails but thinks it's no biggie.

Bonus: Link to photoshopped images used to sell the story.. And misleading cropping and titling too."Common sense endangered, Polar bears not so much".

Big names and many of your neighbors will lose face for basing Anthropogenic Global Warming beliefs on scientists now revealed to be scoundrels.
