VAXXERS: The less you know about the Covid-19 vax, the better you will sleep.

I hope the vaccinated keep a grip on peace of mind.  Troubling information continues to flood in from doctors and scientists, deeply troubling, and this will be hard on VAXXERS as it gets better known.  It always take a while for information to build up after something new is tried.    Stock up on your meds for anxiety and pains.       The less you know about VAERS,  blood vessel endothelium under attack because of stray spike protein, myocarditis in young folk,  rushed approval processes, short term suppression of the body's defences for a few weeks after each jab, and perverse incentives for media, governing bodies and  hospitals, the better you will sleep.

Incoming asteroids! Daily updates at spaceweather.com

This is a reminder that Spaceweather.com gives daily alerts for all known meteors zooming near earth in the next few weeks:  Speed, size and how close they come.   What's new is that more and more "near earth objects"  under 10m in diameter are being spotted before they whiz by.

There's one at 0 LD this week which must have skimmed the atmosphere.  A lunar distance (LD) is about 385,000 km.

Gendering: Status signaling for people who don't need to procreate to prosper.

My view is that gendering is status signaling for people who don’t need to procreate.  Who needs to have children when we can get ahead without family and those who do have kids can expect them all to survive?  Gendering displays advance the individual's status and influence in their social eco-niche but not in their original family.  But that doesn't matter because it's not about kids.  I’m not addressing traditional same-sex sex but am speaking to the useful fripperies of gendering for which there is no alphabet big enough.

Evidence of the alphabet:
"Previously, the queer community had a disjointed identity and was referred to as the “gay” community. The abbreviation LGBT itself evolved. It is now disrespectful to refer to the community only as the LGBT community. It is appropriate to use the abbreviation LGBTQIA+ or LGBTQIAP+ to be more inclusive of all identities within the community. The community has also now evolved to be more accepting of a variety of gender and sexual ‘minorities’ that failed to find a place before."
To illustrate what I mean:
Both birds are male but the fanciest one invests in over-the-top display to attract the attention it values. Such birds occupy very small niches where this pays off for them.   The alphabet genders have small niches that work well for them.

The quieter one actually sits on a nest and shares duties hatching the babies.  You see a lot of robins because this works well and supplies lots of baby robins to populate future lawns and forests.

Male and Female at birth: Gender may be fluid but sex is not. What percent of the population have oddball X and Y chromosomes?

This report on 170,000 people shows seventeen unusual variations on the standard XX (female) and XY (male) but the exceptions are only 6 people out of every ten thousand.    Gender may be fluid  but sex is not.

The first column in the chart is what I'm addressing.   141,813 out of 141,916 women were XX and 29,320 out of 29,336 men were XY.   Every cell in female or male body has the same XX or XY markers.  All talk of gender fluidity is about something different.

Bonus thought:  Sex differentiation in other species including plants and insects may involve XX/XY but may involve a different pair of genes with the male having the matched pair the the female having the unmatched pair.  And other possiblities too.

Incredible 4000 year old mummies in east China desert, buried in boats!

This dessicated beauty could have been someone you loved.

Her mummy is four thousand years old and the detail stuns.   Her Eurasian people lived in eastern China's desert in the Tarim basin on forgotten trade routes.  They were a genetically tight group that has almost disappeared from the human genome.  Several cemeteries are known and the bodies are buried in boats!
A different woman

. If only we could read the rest of the story.

Trump gives vapors to the woke with 13 words in WSJ letter to the editor.

Who knew writing a letter to the editor was a crime?   The disturbance in the narrative is directed at cancelling the Wall Street Journal for publishing a letter of opinion from Citizen Trump rather than addressing the listed statements for truth.  Thirteen little words from Trump in the WSJ gave vapors to the woke.   The rest of his 570 word letter to the editor of the Wall Street Journal is a determinative and damnable review of 20 red flags from the 2020 election in Pennsylvania.

What were those little words? He gave his actual opinion in the opinion section of the newspaper: "Well actually, the election was rigged, which you, unfortunately, still haven’t figured out."   If you care for substance, you will read the unpaywalled October 27th WSJ letter from Donald Trump.

Remember the Mummy Mummy jokes?

I haven't heard one for fifty years but they were popular when I was in high school.

Mummy Mummy, I don't want to go to Europe.
Shut up and keep swimming.

Mummy,Mummy, my braids are too tight.
(Pulls the corner of her eyes out "chinese" style to illustrate).

Mummy Mummy, I don't want to see Grandpa.
Shut up and keep digging.

The mother mother lode, however, is here and some are plenty sick.

Can I lick the bowl? Shut up and flush.
Are you sure this is the way to make ginger bread men? Shut up and get back in the oven

And so on.
And during the polio epidemic in Canada in the fifties there were Iron Lung jokes too.

A boy goes into a pawn shop
A boy goes into a pawn shop with the motor for an iron lung.
the pawn shop owner asks "where did you get this?"
the boy replies "from my father"
the pawn shop owner asks "what did he say when you took it?"
the boy replies: "AAAAUUUUGHHHH"

What do you say when they call you an anti-vaxxer?

No., I'm not an anti-vaxxer  but since we're getting personal, I haven't tried anal either.  Have you?
Also,
I've had lots of vaccines but I'm not ready for this one.  The approvals were rushed, it's still a genetic experiment, and adverse reacdtions include more deaths than it took to cancel past drug tests on people.

Virginia Governorship campaign: "Akin to two lovers debating"

Although it's a big deal to political brokers in the US who wins Tuesday's spot as Governor of Virginia,  at bottom not so much.  Lots of the Washington DC crowd call VA home.and Republican and Democrat pols share an outlook that upstate voters do not.

The Virginia Governor’s race is akin to two lovers debating whether Mercedes or BMW will be their next SUV

Coal ash and lemon juice may supply enough rare earths to free America from China for Rare Earths

Coal ash is suddenly looking good.  Rare earths (95% coming from China these days) can be extracted from ash without using toxic inputs.  There's abundant coal ash which could be de-toxified with the new process.  C02 is considered a waste product too and would be consumed.

Using food-grade citric acid as the carrier and modified carbon dioxide,

"in less than a day, at 158 degrees Fahrenheit (70 degrees Celsius) and 1,100 pounds per square inch pressure (about 70 times ordinary atmospheric pressure), the method extracted 42% of rare-earth metals present in coal waste samples."

Making sense of life with a Theory of Everything:

Each of us has a "Black Box" where everything important we don't understand is put.   Our "Theory of Everything" makes sense of life and for most of us it is our religion.   If all the wild loose ends of life and death and the unknown can be fenced or boxed into one word or belief, we can get on with our daily business.   The kicker is the value we put on the black box.    Do we give it a spin that there is a future with a better life beyond this one, that we can treat others as we wish they would treat us,  or that mankind is ever improving and smarter?  Do we see nihilism and justification to put ourselves always first?

Life is too short and we are too puny, however connected we are to the universe to grasp it all.  We have to take a shortcut and that shortcut is to bundle up what we don't understand into a single "Black Box".  For some, the unknown is like the edge of the world, "Here there be dragons" and for others its the promise of redemption, seeing loved ones, having a reason to do good in this life.

A Black Box:  A system whose inputs and outputs can be observed without any knowledge or understanding of its internal workings.   Some of us believe we have revealed knowledge about what lies beyond and others of us do not.

Tech media giants and sovereign governments at war with each other all over the world.

It's not just Apple/Amazon/Facebook/Twitter/Google/YouTube vs  The U.S. government that struggle for the upper hand in consumer media or far more likely for an accomodation with lots of money involved.   In China, Jack Ma and more are being ordered to defer to the CCP.  Moscow wants "pliable domestic entities" like Yandex, VK and Sber to replace the outsize US versions.   The EU has the world's strictest privacy law and big fines, especially for US consumer media.    (Outline from this article at PJ Media).

Who owns BIG DATA?     The media, the military, the political parties, the deep state that persists beyond elections, corporations that pay the bills, the public?    Ownership is still fought over as BIG DATA explodes bigger daily.  We see local news.  The same news is happening all over the world.

BC has no state of emergency. Didn't read about it ending June 30th 2021?

The BC Government declared the Covid-19 State of Emergency ended 11:59 pm June 30th 2021.
You didn't hear about it, did you?   Some of the mandates issued under the protection of the State of Emergency were extended, however.

Mandates are not laws and are issued under cover of such events as a state of emergency.

Space News October 2021

Hubble Snapshot of 'Molten Ring' Galaxy Prompts New Research

Hubble finds 19 more Einstein rings, created when one giant elliptical galaxy is exactly in front of another one twice as  far away, as predicted by Albert E.  Light from the remote one is warped by the gravity of the forward one to produce a pale ring.

Whack an asteroid and save the world.  NASA is launching a bullet in November at asteroid Dimorphos at 24,000 km/hr as the first actual test diversion of a space rock.  Someday humans will have to do this to survive or at least divert a tragedy.  DART = Double Asteroid Diversion Test.

The Big Bang only goes back to the beginning of the visible universe.  That first second has a lot hidden within it.    No one has been able to factor in what happens with the other 95% of the universe that is defined as dark energy (69%) and dark matter (26%).

Shattner in space.  This has been a fun story for Star Trek fans.  What I like is the Overton Window has moved so less government and more "Enterprise" is welcome.

The possibility of nuclear weapons in standby orbit above us at all times moved closer this week with China's launch of a hypersonic missile that did a full orbit of earth before hitting (near) its target.  US weaponry people are "surprised".

Jupiter's own 'northern lights' triggered by x-rays made the news, being better understood. Astronomic aurora.

Earth took a near miss from a big asteroid that hadn't been detected before.  2021SG came "out of the sun" from the one vector we couldn't get a good fix on.  We spotted it the day after it passed between the moon and earth!  Apparently it was well over 50 meters in diameter  (triple the diameter or about 30 times the mass) of the Chelyabinsk 2013 meteor which smashed a bunch of windows and scared people).

The Hubble orbiting telescope was brought back to life this summer after the original computer in it failed.     The backup components were working and various elements were being released from Safe Mode in July.  This is exciting that such a brilliant tool is saved again.

Atkisson: Three easy ways to tell you are being astroturfed. (Deceived by fake opinion)

Sharyl Atkisson is a gem.  I re-watched her 2015 TED talk on astroturfing, the pervasive "grass-roots" fake news machine.   It's found everywhere, in medical ads and surveys and fact-checks and facebook opinions.   Don't be surprised how much is caught in the net!  Three simple rules to tag most of the fakery and propaganda:

1.   Is the language inflammatory and dismissive?  (debunk, kook, conspiracy, nuts, paranoid, myth, crackpot)
2.   Are the people and organisations being attached instead of the facts they raise?
3.   Is the scepticism aimed at the people calling out wrongdoing instead of the wrongdoers?

All the Covid-19 WHY Questions in one place

Australian engineer, Dr. Phil Greer, has done us a service framing over a hundred current WHY questions about Covid-19 , addressing under-reported but secure medical findings and government overreach.  My brain has been going numb from the overload of information and misinformation.  This one writeup in bullet form seems to hit all the high points of concern.

Worried about world getting hot? Excess cold is everywhere the top killer, not excess heat.

This chart is from The Lancet showing excess cold events are far more dangerous than excess heat events over time.     Oddly, this same publication now predicts millions of deaths from warming, overlooking its own information.  Wattsupwiththat.com

This is the perfect moment to slip in one of my favorite poems, crafted with such skill by Robert Frost.
Hatred towards the people I admire seems ascendent today.

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.
